What is Nifty index?
Indian Equity Market consists of various indices, Nifty index is also one of the major index in the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Full form of Nifty is National Index Fifty. The Nifty Companies index consists of 50 Indian stocks Companies list of 14 (Previously 13) important sectors of the economy. These 50 Stock Companies have different weightage in Nifty Index. The basis of Nifty is closing prices on 3rd November 1995 with a base value of 1000 and with a base capital of Rs. 2.06 trillion.

Reliance Industries Ltd. (Reliance Weight in Nifty) has the highest weightage having 11.03% weightage in Nifty Companies list 2022, whereas HDFC Bank is on second place having 8.26% weightage & ICICI bank is on third spot having 7.94% in Nifty Companies list 2022 based on closing prices of October . These stocks are called Nifty heavy weights stocks.
Bharat Pertroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has the least weightage of 0.38% in Nifty Weightage Index.
Shree Cement Ltd. has been replaced by Adani Enterprises Ltd. in September 2022.
Indian Oil Corporation has been replaced by Apollo Hospitals in March 2022 closing nifty stocks.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. & Bharti Infratel Ltd. had been replaced by SBI Life Insurance Co. & Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. with effect from September 25, 2020.
There was exclusion of Vedanta Ltd. in the Nifty Index from July 31, 2020. HDFC Life (HDFCLife) had been included as a replacement of Vedanta in Nifty Index.
There was exclusion of Yes Bank in the Nifty Index on March 19, 2020. Shree Cement Ltd had been lately included in Nifty Companies List 2020.

Financial Services Sector has the highest weightage percentage of 36.81% and Frtilizers & Pesticides Sector has the least percentage of 0.47% in Nifty Sectoral Weightage on the basis of Nifty September 2022 Closing prices.
Till August 2020, it had 14 sectors, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd was removed from Nifty which was of Media & Entertainment sector.
Prior to April 1,2020, this index consists of 13 different sectors.
The Energy sector has been divided into 2 sectors namely Oil & Gas and Power.
NSE Nifty 50 Index Future and Options Lot Size
As per the Circular Ref. 28/2021 dated 31 March 2021 issued by National Stock Exchange India Ltd, Nifty Lot Size for futures & Options Contract has been revised to 50 units.
